Today, you'll leave the mainland behind and take the ferry to Isla Mujeres, a small island just a stone's throw from Cancun. You can easily purchase your ticket at the port in Puerto Juarez. The boats depart approximately every half hour, so you won't have to wait long. As you leave the city behind, after about 20 minutes, you'll see the island appear. Palm trees, sandy beaches, and a relaxed atmosphere await you.
You'll spend three nights in a small hotel near Playa Norte, one of the island's most beautiful beaches. Between snorkeling, strolling, and a siesta, the hotel pool is a lovely place to cool off. In the evening, you can enjoy the sunset with a drink in hand.
Two full days to do whatever you want. Isla Mujeres is compact and relaxed, and if you don't want to spend all day lying on the beach, there's plenty to explore. Rent a bike or golf cart and explore the island on your own. Along the way, you'll pass viewpoints, colorful streets, and smaller beaches where it's easy to stop for a swim.
The center is a bit busier during the day with day-trippers from Cancun, but in the evening, it quiets down, and you can enjoy a delicious dinner by the water. Along the pier, you'll find many restaurants serving grilled fresh fish: simple, tasty, and affordable.
Want a bit of action? Go snorkeling at Garrafon Natural Reef Park. If you're there between June and August, you can even snorkel with whale sharks—an impressive experience. See the bottom of the page for more information.
Tip: Visit the Mayan ruins of Ixchel, located in the very south of the island. Although the ruins of Ixchel aren't that large, you'll be impressed by their unique location right by the sea.
Enjoy your last morning on this beautiful island. Perhaps you'll take a refreshing dip in the sea, a coffee at the charming little café around the corner, or a final stroll along the beach. A wonderful moment to reflect on your trip through Mexico, which was full of impressions and special places.
Afterwards, you'll take the ferry back to Puerto Juarez. A transfer to Cancun Airport awaits you. This way, you'll end your trip in complete relaxation.
