The Soumaya Museum in Plaza Carso is an enclosure in ”Nuevo Polanco” that exhibits a large number of works of art from Mexico and the world .

The Soumaya Museum is a cultural facility of the Carlos Slim Foundation, AC. This facility has several locations, including Plaza Carso, which is in the area known as ”Nuevo Polanco”. The aim of this initiative is to collect and disseminate works and artistic testimonies from Mexico and the world.

The Soumaya Museum in Plaza Carso is a work of art in itself. Its avant-garde structure makes it possible to appreciate an unconventional asymmetrical building. It's also covered with 16,000 hexagonal aluminum plates that remind us of the scaly skin of a snake.

It was designed by Fernando Romero , a Mexican architect recognized for creating other avant-garde buildings such as the Ciudad Juárez Convention Center. Soumaya Museum is 46 meters

high and has 6 floors connected by a passage that spirally hugs the banks of the museum. The building has permanent and temporary exhibits; there is no definitive way to take the tour, but it is recommended that you take the elevator and start the experience on the top floor. That is, in the permanent exhibition of ”The Era of Rodìn”.

The other permanent exhibitions besides "The Era of Rodin" are: The gate of hell, of gold and silver: decorative art, Asia in ivory, old European and new Hispanic masters and from impressionism to the avant-garde. In the Soumaya Museum you will find works of art of various kinds. These include sculptures such as ”The Kiss” and ”The Thinker” by the French artist Rodin . There are also paintings by David Alfaro Siqueiros, Dr. Atl. Likewise, in one of the sections devoted to the portraits of these artists, you can see the stories of various painters . Among them are those of Juan Soriano, Carlos Mérida, Lola Cueto, Maria Izquierdo and so on.
