Love made legends, a romantic moment in an era full of historical moments. Let's not forget the love for our volcanoes in Mexico.
Did you know that Mexico has "the smallest volcano in the world"? We will tell you about Cuexcomate, the son of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The smallest volcano in the world is a curiosity that the state of Puebla is preparing for us in the Libertad district of its capital. The name "Cuexcomate" comes from the Nahuatl term "cuexcomatl" and means "camp" or "place of camp". The Cuexcomate was created in 1064 thanks to an eruption of the volcano Popocatépetl, which reactivated the circulation of hot springs in the region . For this reason, legend says he is the son of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.
The last eruption of the geyser occurred in 1562, although it released only gases and boiling water, its structure is more like that of a volcano. Inside it is still connected to Popocatépetl so that it can release water again. We will take a little trip into the problems and legends. The legend, the beautiful daughter Iztaccihuatl, had given under the power of
the Aztecs a wealthy Tlaxcaltecist leader of the Valley of Mexico, the young warrior Popocatepetl her heart, had fought his people before leaving for the war of freedom and asked for her hand marriage.
Popocatepetl fought with great honor and carried the image of his beloved in his heart, but before he returned, an enemy informed the young warrior Iztaccíhuat of his tragic death in battle. She died of grief, deeply discouraged.
Upon his return, Popocatepetl anxiously waited for his love, but soon discovered the tragic accident. He built a tomb in honor of her memory on a mountaintop and carrying Iztaccíhuatl's inert body, placed her back in her new home and knelt before her. With the torch in his hand, he would join her in an eternal dream. According to legend, the smoke from his torch covered both bodies until they soon formed mountains.
